A friend of mine called me and asked  — “Tabish, how do I know if the coach I’m talking to is actually good?”

It’s a great question — because Ya… not every coach is the same.

Some coaches truly help you grow.

And some… just make you feel good for a while.

Hey there, I’m Tabish Bibikar, and I coach and mentor software company founders to build scale in their business — without burning out or losing focus.

So, how do you tell the difference between a good coach and a not-so-good one?

Here’s what I’ve learned after coaching hundreds of founders and having worked with Coaches myself on my own business.

A not-so-good coach spends most of the time talking.

They inspire, they motivate, they tell stories… but you leave the session not knowing what to actually do next.

They make you feel better — but not better equipped.

A good coach does almost the opposite.

They listen more than they talk.

They ask tough questions about your business — about your numbers, your systems, your team, and your decisions.

They help you find clarity, not just comfort.

A not-so-good coach focuses on hype — quick wins, big promises, big energy.

A good coach focuses on structure — building habits, creating systems, and helping you stay accountable.

And here’s the simplest test:

After a coaching session, ask yourself —

Do I just feel motivated?

Or do I have a clear list of actions, with who will do what and by when?

Because if you only feel motivated, that’s temporary.

But if you leave with clarity and direction, that’s coaching.

A good coach doesn’t just lift you up — they hold up a mirror.

They show you what’s working, what’s not, and how to fix it — step by step.

Motivation fades fast.

Clarity lasts.

So before you choose your coach, don’t look for someone who only inspires you.

Look for someone who helps you think better, decide better, and lead better.

That’s what good coaching feels like.

Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you in the next one.
