Many business owners think, If we just install an ERP system, our delivery delays will disappear. But here’s the truth: an ERP alone cannot fix your delivery problems.

Hi, I’m Shrikant Prabhudesai. I coach manufacturing businesses to improve delivery, cost, and time, without being stuck in endless fire-fighting.

Now, don’t get me wrong. An ERP is powerful. It gives you visibility, helps track data, and organizes information across departments. But if the foundation of your processes is weak, the ERP will only show you the problems more clearly, it won’t solve them for you.

For example, if your production planning is inaccurate, or if your shop floor lacks discipline in updating status, then the ERP will reflect those same inaccuracies. Garbage in, garbage out.

Or take material management, if your purchase team delays orders or vendors don’t deliver on time, the ERP might highlight the shortage, but it cannot magically make the material appear in your store.

The real fix starts with aligning people and processes, clear communication, accountability, and standard practices. Once that’s in place, ERP becomes a fantastic tool to accelerate decision-making and maintain consistency. But without the discipline, it’s like buying a high-performance car and never learning how to drive it properly.

So, if delivery delays are hurting your business, don’t look at ERP as a silver bullet. First, fix the way your teams plan, coordinate, and execute. Then use ERP to scale those good practices.
