Many founders notice this pattern: “Why am I the answer to everything?” Client complaint? Your
name comes up. Site challenge? Someone calls you. Vendor negotiation? You get pulled in.
Nobody planned this. It just evolved.
I’m Milind Bibikar, and I work with mid-sized B2B engineering companies. This happens
constantly. Initially, it seems efficient, you understand the business deeply, and intervening feels
fastest. But gradually, this creates dependency. Teams stop attempting solutions because
everything eventually circles back to you anyway.
Why does this happen? First, founders respond too readily. Someone brings an issue, you
handle it immediately. People learn: “Boss se pooch lete hain, confirm ho jaayega.” Deep
thinking reduces because there’s always an easier path.
Second, decision boundaries remain undefined. Can they commit to vendor pricing? Adjust
project scope? Spend within limits? When these lines are blurry, people choose safety—which
means escalating upward.
Third, founders accidentally discourage ownership. If mistakes trigger frustration but caution
gets rewarded, the message becomes obvious: “Risk mat lo, pehle confirm kar lo.” Independent
judgment vanishes.
Fourth, problems arrive without solutions. Someone says, “Site pe issue aa gaya hai.” Better to
ask: “What have you thought through? What would you suggest?” That simple change reshapes
thinking.
One founder’s day is constant firefighting: morning procurement crisis, afternoon site
emergency, evening client concern. Another founder’s team understands their decision scope.
Escalations happen only for genuine exceptions.
Same complexity. Entirely different founder reality.
A mature business isn’t where the founder resolves everything personally. It’s where teams
handle situations confidently, and the founder focuses only on what genuinely requires
leadership attention. Because if everything needs your involvement, scaling becomes nearly
impossible.
