Many CEOs notice this pattern. Morning starts with twenty questions—what’s the cash position?
Which projects are actually on track? Where are the sales leads? You’re asking because you
don’t have a clear view. And if you’re asking, you’re already managing blind.
I’m Milind Bibikar, and I work with mid-sized B2B engineering and project companies.
Why does this happen?
First, progress tracking lives in people’s heads, not on dashboards. You ask your PM: are we on
schedule? “Bas thoda delay hai, but manageable.” What does that mean? Two days or two
weeks? Is the delay on critical path? You get opinions, not data. By the time the delay becomes
obvious, recovery options have vanished.
Second, cash flow surprises arrive too late. Receivables are “expected soon.” Payables are
“under control.” Then suddenly, “Boss, payment nahi aayi, vendor ko dena padega.” You’re
firefighting cash gaps that were visible weeks ago—if anyone was actually looking at the
numbers daily.
Third, sales activity feels busy but produces nothing measurable. Your team is “in talks” with
five prospects. Great—but which stage? What’s the probability? When do decisions happen?
“Abhi discussion chal raha hai” becomes the permanent status. Three months pass. You realize
those five prospects are still “in discussion.” Nothing moved.
One CEO’s day is constant questioning—calling PMs for status, chasing finance for cash
updates, asking sales what’s really happening. Another CEO opens three dashboards at 9 AM:
project progress with clear red-yellow-green status, cash flow with 30-day forward view, sales
pipeline with stage movement and closure probability.
Same business complexity. Entirely different visibility.
The question isn’t whether your business has problems. The better question is: do you see them
while you can still fix them, or only after they’ve already cost you?
Because if you’re managing by asking questions instead of reading dashboards, you’re always
one step behind reality.
